Live Review: POMO 'Back 2 U' (Official Video)

HW&W Recordings's POMO has been one busy man lately. In between playing shows alongside RUSTIE, labelmate KAYTRANADA and HUDSON MOHAWKE around the world, he managed to release his debut 8 track EP titled The Other Day late last year.

Featuring a collaboration with his labelmate, The Other Day is packed full of disco beats and future funk grooves and represents a big step forward for the Canadian beatmaker.

A standout track on the EP is Back 2 U, featuring soulful vocal samples, futuristic yet delicate synths and a booming bassline. It's no wonder then why POMO chose this track for his first ever video clip. Teaming up with PETER HADFIELD, this film clip is a visually stunning video capturing professional high-divers doing what they do best.

HADFIELD has managed to capture not just the sporting side of diving, but also the artistic side, and has portrayed this really quite beautifully. The clip starts out with some slow motion shots before picking things up with some turns and twists as the track swells.

However, it's not until about 1:50 that things get really interesting. The background building begins to warp and melt as the track introduces some more future synth melodies. The scene quickly begins to completely disappear into a distorted, tripped out version of what we started with.

POMO is not one to sit still for long, having just wrapped up some shows with TRIPPY TURTLE last week to go on tour with GIRAFFAGE and SPAZZKID this week. He's also just been announced on the third round of acts for this year's SXSW in Austin, Texas. If this is what we can expect from POMO, this guy is in for a pretty big year!
