Live Review: Asdasfr Bawd 'Negative Energy'

5 November 2015 | 12:29 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Solitaire Recordings have just put ASDASFR BAWD's new one 'Negative Energy' and it's one of the most mish-mash singles we've heard in a long while.

Consistently and continually proving that he's a force to be reckoned with, ASDASFR BAWD is no stranger to the more eclectic side of electronic music. Release after release seems to become more recognisable and instantaneously discernible from other artists' output.

Solitaire Recordings have just put out his new one 'Negative Energy' and it's one of the most mish-mash singles I've heard in a long while.

Channeling rhythmic aspects of artists like Animal Collective and pushing percussion in a similar way to artists like Ribongia and Roland Tings, this is about as far as the comparisons can go with this one.

Asdasfr Bawd's sound is just so distinctive, he's literally created an entirely new brand of music that suits his vibe so well. 'Negative Energy' begins as this dissonant, almost syncopated "beat" (if that's what you want to call it). I say that as there's no real definite rhythm to the first couple of seconds, but that's definitely the magic of the track.

Its an amalgamation of vocal samples with pitch variations applied to them, percussive dissonancies and challenging what conventional dance rhythms actually are.

As per usual, Asdasfr Bawd's ahead of the game on this one. And as per usual, the reception of this one is going to be so sweet.
