Live Review: Asdasfr Bawd ‘Alsp’

9 September 2015 | 9:28 am | Madeline Kilby

The latest Asdasfr Bawd release ‘Alsp’ continues this letter combo thing, and proves producer can also go on his list of merits.

ASDASFR BAWD came forth earlier this year in a flourish of unpronounceable letter combinations (it’s pronounced az-das-a-fah bor-d, real name Alex Clayton), all pieced together as a 19-year-old Melburnian who has a background in classical piano and percussion. His latest release ‘Alsp’ continues this letter combo thing, and proves producer can also go on his list of merits.

Backing up his debut two track ‘Nobody/Love’, ‘Alsp’ comes before of the October 19 release of Underpass EP, which will be launched by Solitaire Recordings. All of this comes along with performances later in the year at Paradise Festival, EMC Festival and supporting I’lls at the Northcote Social Club September 12.

‘Alsp’ makes his entry from house to footwork, a genre that comes as a direct descendant of ghetto house. Vocals fire at a machine gun’s pace, percussion is firing at all directions and synth sounds seem to be the ammunition's target. It sounds hectic, but somehow it is seamlessly put together. Asdasfr Bawd ‘Alsp’ is “one of those hyped up roller coaster rides with unstoppable momentum” meshed with an influence straight from the jungle. You can imagine an epic cheetah/gazelle chase happening to this track.
