MOBO-winning London MC, STORMZY, drops an unexpected new track, showing that tough guys have feelings too.

‘You’re Like’ is a love song for a special lady, with teasing lyrics like "You hate to see me leave and I hate to see the back of you / Wait, nah, I love to see the back of you’, and mushy puppy eyed lines like ‘Look, I’m only joking, but jokes aside, I’m so grateful / How did my girlfriend become my guardian angel".

The track opens with Stormzy speaking/singing a-cappella in a thick guttural London accent which growls in a faintly melodic manner, hitting some notes and endearingly missing others. It moves into a sweet, gentle and ever so un-grimey beat that sounds ‘90s inspired and bubble-gum cute, with heart beat drums and quivering female vocals. The single artwork shows a cartoon Mickey and Minnie mouse cuddling – oh the softer side of underground rap.

The single is split into three distinct parts – the a cappella opening, Stormzy’s bars and then a closing sample from LA based singer-songwriter Alex Isley’s song ‘About Him’ to tie the themes together. (And yes, she’s the niece of motown legends The Isley Brothers).

Stormzy currently repping the new series of Adidas creps (that’s trainers fyi) and taking the US by storm(zy), so take a moment to enjoy the softer side of the London hard boy.
