Live Review: Lethal Bizzle ‘Fester Skank’ Ft. Diztortion (Official Video)

Grime stalwart Lethal Bizzle returns with an ever so familiar UK bassline on his new track ‘Fester Skank’. Let's just say it's pretty 'dench'.

Grime stalwart LETHAL BIZZLE returns with an ever so familiar UK bassline on his new track ‘Fester Skank’. The song is Bizzle’s first release on Virgin EMI (with whom he linked a deal at the beginning of the year), and follows on from 2014’s ‘The Drop’ and ‘Rari Workout’ featuring JME & Skepta, both of which were released independently through Bizzle’s own label, Dench Records.

Mr. Bizzle found fame in 2003 as part of London’s More Fire Crew with their shouty breakthrough track ‘Oi’, and he’s now expanded into a bit of a global entrepreneur. For those who don’t know, "dench" is a positive affirmation meaning something akin to ‘oh very nice’ or ‘how lovely’. The word dench has become synonymous with Lethal B – think of it as the UK’s answer to Drake and "YOLO". You can buy Dench T-shirts from Bizzle’s successful clothing line and even turn up in the club on a Tuesday at his internationally renowned Dench Party club nights. Dame Judi Dench endorses them. Seriously. (I don't think I've ever said dench this much).

‘Fester Skank’ keeps Bizzle’s trademark tongue in cheek style with high and low-end references to Nando’s and Ferraris (or rather, Raris) rubbing shoulders. Long time production partner Diztortion provides the reggae-laced beat, which is primed for Carnival this year.

The video for ‘Fester Skank’ garnered over 100,000 views within 24 hours of going live, helped by cameos from Donaeo, Wretch 32, Krept & Konan, Tinchy Stryder and Chip (diddy Chip). The video is on point and irreverent as ever; Bizzle is a judge on the Dench Factor and auditionees showcase the eponymous dance that gives the song its title. Named after Uncle Fester from the Addams family, presumably for the lanky limbed swagger that is required by those doing the walk, it’s a new dance move that has already gone viral. Lethal B has launched the Fester Skank Awards for the most random, funny or sexiest 'Fester Skank' videos – check some of them out here.

The track itself isn’t exactly Bizzle’s finest hour in terms of thoughtful lyrical content, but that’s not the point – it’s catchy, flippant and has rhythm in all the right places. The 'Fester Skank' is already the stuff of Snapchat and Vine folklore and is quickly becoming a pre drink favourite, a chance to #turnup and #staydench. Wagwan bruv.
