Melbourne cult dance duo STATUE, known about the traps for their unique style of percussion, have launched their debut EP Built.

Melbourne cult dance duo STATUE, known about the traps for their unique style of percussion, have launched their debut EP, Built, through Cut Copy’s Cutters Records, and are taking us on a journey of the exceptional kind.

Cutter Records pride themselves on releases that are available on 12 inch vinyl, which from the get go says a lot about the type sound quality and general love that goes into any release on the label. Built proves they have an ear for talent and can scour out a new and unique sound that sets artists apart from others in the very large world of house producers.

STATUE, the combined force of Tom Gould and Nicolaas Oogjes, are known for creating layers of rhythmic percussion and raw synth. The percussion is created by drum machines, but also live recordings, giving a human element to STATUE’s music, something which is often rare in dance music.

Built has a lot on offer in terms of sound and vibe. Elements of it sit somewhere between a samba (complete with whistle) to a jungle adventure, you feel kind of like you are running through the jungle. Rather than being chased by a predator though, you are apart of a tribe. And by run its kind of more like King Julian’s lemur rave in Madagascar, energised, confusing, but nothing short of colourful and fantastic.

Built is available now on iTunes and 12” marble vinyl through Juno.
