Live Review: Tenru 'Oceans'

9 April 2015 | 12:23 pm | Emma Jones

Perth producer Tenru makes some seriously chilled but seriously talented electronica, like what can be heard in his latest track, 'Oceans'.

Perth producer TENRU is new to the scene, but don't let that give you any indication of his abilities. In fact, having only been making beats for a few months, his abilities are such that you could easily think he has been doing this forever!

Such is the quality of his very few releases, with his latest track 'Oceans' merely solidifying this. Beautiful and lush, 'Oceans' is a soundscape you can't not get lost in, aided with the heavy helping of hip-hop stylings in the beats and echoing, reverb drenched vocals.

Starting off with a few shimmering synth notes and the breathy, soulful vocals, the beat kicks in and starts the groove. A female vocal line soars over the beats, blissful and sun drenched. Everything seems to glisten, from the warbling keys to the chant like "Oceans...Oceans" echoing in and out.

Channelling forerunners like Bonobo or, a little closer to home like OisimaTenru is demonstrating a serious knack for chilled electronica, and it's his incorporation of other genres like hip-hop that makes him all the more interesting and enjoyable to listen to. Smashing SoundCloud play counts ('Oceans' has over 21,000 in 12 days), it's pretty clear he is on more than a few radars - and rightly so.

'Oceans' is apparently lifted off his forthcoming EP out in May, so watch this space for any further developments!
