Flying Lotus ‘Phantasm’ (Official Video)
FLYING LOTUS is a name you should all know by now. We have been watching this man since his Until The Quiet Comes hit us last year and since then, we’ve just been blessed with a series of wonderful, atmospheric electronica that puts us in a daze we don’t want to get out of.
With tracks like ‘Tiny Tortures’ and ‘See Thru To U’, which features the blissful vocals of ERYKAH BADU, the producer has left his mark and although we haven’t heard an abundance of new material since last year’s album, we do now have a new music video for a sweet piece of music you may remember from the release called ‘Phantasm’.
Not to be confused with COSMO’S MIDNIGHT‘s collaborative track with NICOLE MILLAR, ‘Phantasm’ has it’s own aura that isn’t hard to fall deep into. With songs as soft as this, you can appreciate the intricate structure that is beneath it all. There’s power in holding back in ‘Phantasm’ and that power is in the form of a chopped lick of jazz. Soft vocals dancing over velvety synth melodies, you could easily just shut out the world and be engulfed in FLYING LOTUS‘ smooth grooves.
The video is probably not what you’d expect though. When you listen to ‘Phantasm’ you’d probably picture some sort of spacey or mysterious visual that is just as mesmerising as bonfire flames, however this is not what you get. Instead you’re treated to a story of two creatures roaming around a desert. The creatures are quite odd themselves, one looks like a giant ball of dust that you may find underneath your bed and the other is a being that is engulfed in stars and galaxies.
The video was shot in the middle of the New Zealand desert, which you probably didn’t think was there inside all of their lush greenery, by director Markus Hofko and it’s definitely fascinating to watch.
