Although the members of LOW LUX have been trawling around the Sydney music scene for the last decade in various ensembles, the band itself is only quite new. Before hitting the road on tour with The Preatures, they have dropped their second release ‘Ruin’ to backup their superb debut ‘Rivers Roll’.

‘Ruin’ moves ever so slightly away from the deep synthy influence of ‘Rivers Roll’. The forefront of the song focuses more on the bands various backgrounds as musicians, with more of a synth underpinning to give the track its groove. ‘Ruin’ has a sound a little like an 80’s pop ballad with an indie-pop inspired twist.

Lead Singer Daisy Dowd (formally of Bridezilla) has transitioned from violinist to lead singer in the formation of Low Lux, consequently changing her presence and edge in the music scene. Dowd gives the track strength through both her voice and her presence on screen throughout the clip.

The clip for ‘Ruin’ features Dowd and has a distinctly continental feel. With the constant use of red lights, the lack of emotion on Dowds face, the illusion of neon city lights and a whole city just beyond reach; all combined with an identity struggle - there is a distant resemblance to scenes straight out of the 1991 documentary ‘The Good Woman of Bangkok’. A film that focuses on the sex industry in Thailand.

The lyrics talk about “magical sparks in the air”, but with a title like ‘Ruin’, it also tells a sad story about loss, not unlike the stories many women in this industry have to tell, how girls may think they have a serendipitous connection to someone before being lured in.

‘Ruin’ shows the talent of each individual in Low Lux. The track has been self-released and produced by Bridezilla engineer Tim Whitten, who has worked with The Go- Betweens, Augie March and The Necks.

Both the clip for ‘Ruin’ and the track are out August 24 ahead of Low Lux hitting the road with The Preatures later in the week.
