Live Review: Drake 'Marvin's Room' (JOY. Cover)

22 October 2014 | 12:02 pm | Lauren Payne

Brisbane songstress JOY. has released a spellbinding cover of Drake's track 'Marvin's Room'.

DRAKE is probably the most covered artist of 2014. His track 'Hold On We're Going Home' has been covered by HOLY GHOST!, LOUIE LA ROUCHE, BLOOD ORANGE and I'm assuming plenty more artists who we don't know, but today Brisbane songstress JOY. has covered a different DRAKE track and made it sound more beautiful than ever before.

'Marvin's Room' is one of DRAKE's more dramatic offerings. The entire piece is smooth and oozes with emotional lyrics that keep you hooked in.

The melody is soft and light, full of brooding synths that hum around themselves and quietly allow DRAKE's lyrics to take the lead. Now that JOY. has released her cover of 'Marvin's Room', we've been able to experience a softer side to the track that we wouldn't have heard otherwise.

JOY.'s cover of 'Marvin's Room' has been released as both a single to stream on SoundCloud and a video that was recorded live at The Echo Creative. The video completely captures the singer as she performs the track with all of the raw emotion that DRAKE had in his original. Her delicate voice floats atop the piano track giving 'Marvin's Room' a new graceful face. Synths and light beats compliment the piano track and soon everything just becomes elevated as the saxophone emerges.
