Live Review: Banks 'Drowning' (Tom Demac Remix)

26 July 2014 | 12:00 am | Lauren Payne

Tom Demac is the latest producer to remix Banks and the final result is extremely hard.

BANKS is more in demand than ever and with her latest track 'Drowning' already being remixed by LIDO, TOM DEMAC has decided to give it ago and the result is better than you think.

'Drowning' is taken from BANKS' latest album Goddess and is an emotional roller coaster driven by brooding synths and her own soulful vocals.

'Drowning' holds a dark sound that produces waves of beauty in every direction. It's delicate structure paves the way for a series of synths to create a melody that compliments the lustful voice that we've all come to recognise now as BANKS'. TOM DEMAC's remix keeps the original vocals moving organically whilst creating a smokey and edgier melody around it; the vocals are clearly the driving force of this remix and everything seems to fall in line behind it.

With some harder combinations coming into play further into the rework, 'Drowning' slowly finds it's footing and soon stomps with an aggression that only house-infused synths can create. A hard beat thuds behind deep synths and horns that have been distorted slightly to give it an angry energy that is thrust upon us whenever they appear. TOM DEMAC has kept 'Drowning' as emotional as the original mix was, but has changed the emotion from longing to temperamental, with the track having a new bite that it didn't posses before.

This new remix of 'Drowning' is yet another that BANKS can keep close to her. Although there have been many remixes and reworks of her music, there are only a handful that are really worth holding dear and TOM DEMAC's remix is one of them.

A powerful track for a powerful singer, nothing could be better.
