Live Review: SG Lewis & J. Warner give us the warm and radiant 'Aura'

On paper,  your average night out seems pretty black and white. You grab some food around dusk, maybe have a few cocktails too many, followed by a poor decision to head to your local nightclub, a tear-soaked 3am kebab and a painful hangover come sunrise that'll have you swearing you'll never do it again - until you repeat this exact same routine next week. But, while all that is certainly true, there's something oddly magical about the time of night that each event occurs in and how the mood progresses and fluctuates along with the moon. That is where SG LEWIS, with the help of J. WARNER, steps in the warm and vibrant 'Aura' - a song that's a sonic dedication to those few fleeting moments before you make all those decisions you'll forget tomorrow.

There's something comfortably familiar about 'Aura' that certifies it as a party starter track. That strutting guitar line coupled with the sunny uptempo melody immediately invigorates, while the bass that kicks in during the chorus absolutely beams. The delicate and sparse piano notes that are sprinkled over the last minute or so help to finish the song off with a cloak of optimism and euphoria that completely ties everything together.

J. Warner's vocal ability isn't to be downplayed, either. He rides the beat with effortless precision, and makes his voice ebb and flow along with the melody. SG Lewis' refined production gives room for Warner to play around with his delivery - from smooth and crooning to rapid-fire and enticing - making for a magnetising collaboration.

The electricity that buzzes through the entirety of 'Aura' is palpable, with SG Lewis taking the wheel and J. Warner to guide him. While there might be storms ravaging elsewhere, these two have ensured that, for right now at least, the only thing that matters is where we're going after this drink because you can be sure the party is only just getting started.
