POOLCLVB’s ‘You + Me’ EP is drenched in summery goodness

poolclub-08

The hardest thing about hosting a pool party is nothing because you have a pool and nothing is bad about your life. However, if you had to choose one thing, it’s curating the perfect soundtrack. Do you go for nostalgic 90s jams? The pop hits of today? The entire discography of Australian Idol Alumni? Well, fear no more fam, because POOLCLVB has given us four delicious tracks, in the form of his You + Me EP via etcetc, that are beyond refreshing and are incessantly sprinkled with the elements of the warmer months we as Australians love.

The Sydney-based producer has really surmised what summer love is like to a post-Grease generation. Each track demonstrates an understanding of the delicate balance between vocals and production, and how to stir the two to create a colourful concoction that never stops making you feel both warm and cool at the same time. Opening with ‘Always’, POOLCLVB out the gate shows us how exactly you should be doing vocal house – it’s a bop, with the chorus’ stabbing synths giving an edge to the airy vocals singing “You and me always (I know that it’s possible).”

‘You Give Me Love’ and ‘Waiting For You’ give us the dense centrepiece to the EP. Both tracks are not as fluffy as the opener, but still contain some gnarly and unique sonic arrangements that POOLCLVB is no doubt going to make a name for himself with. The standout, however, is closer ‘What You Want’, with his bouncing synths that somehow sound both like yesterday and tomorrow. It sweats a funky melody, and you can just picture yourself laying by the pool – cocktail in one hand, Snapchat in the other – listening to this monster tune. The best music transports you places, and this EP is going to transport you straight to your tropical paradise pipe dreams.
