16 January 2017 | 8:09 am | Abbey Lenton

With the chillest of nonchalance and wit, Gold Coast hip-hop artist Jesswar takes us through her picks for the top five tracks of the moment.

Gold Coast local and emerging hip-hop artist JESSWAR is bringing her casual coolness to Brissy this weekend, as part of BRISBABES #6 - The Finale.  At only 21 years of age, Jesswar has already been spicing up the Australian hip-hop scene for four years, wowing crowds at both her own shows and in support slots for the likes of ALLDAYDYLAN JOEL and soon, LADY LESHURR. Her debut EP, Peachy, had critics and fans alike rapt, and she hasn't stopped dropping great songs, remixes and internet videos ever since.

With the chillest of nonchalance and wit, Jesswar takes us through her picks for the top five tracks of the moment.

Trinidad James 'Just a Lil Thick'

"Top pick as song of the moment because it’s catchy as fuck and it talks about my two favourite things: a thick woman and food."

Princess Nokia 'Tom Boy'

"Princess Nokia is really fucking rad and I love her vocal performance in this song and I have lil titties and a fat belly so I can really relate to the lyrical content. Also beat goes hard so it’s right up there for me."

Being Jane Lane 'Ohio'

"BJL are the best punk band in Brisbane at the moment and this song is my favourite of theirs plus their live shows are crazy good so you should go catch them live, to experience the full effect!"

G Elenil 'Easy'

"Easy is a really strong track from G and I love her lyrics and vocals on this track, that’s why its one of my favourites to listen to at the moment."

YG 'Why You Always Hatin'

"That first few bass drops lets ya know, this a definite tune. I love a smug verse and this track is full of them. From YG’s opener to Dreezy, it just keeps comin’."

To catch Jesswar in action, head along to The Foundry in Brisbane this weekend for BRISBABES #6 - The Finale. A gig with a purpose, BRISBABES is all about highlighting the incredible female talent the city has to offer: rightfully including the Gold Coast's emerging hip-hop queen.
