Live Review: Abelard ‘I’m OK For Now’

11 January 2016 | 10:52 am | Madeline Kilby

ABELARD is just your average Glitterfunk jammer from Melbourne. Having delighted both die-hard sitcom fans, and just the Internet in general, with his remix of the Seinfeld theme, Abelard has dropped, rather secretly, his own creation, ‘I’m OK For Now’.

Abelard’s tunes have a very unique blur of both 80’s and 90’s influences. Being apart of the Glitterwave school of electronica, everything he touches is basically magical, just like fairies.

‘I’m OK For Now’ has a boppy, chill, easy going vibe, all while having a strong enough beat to bust some moves to if you know how to move your hips. The 80’s influence in this track comes from the samples provided 80’s music makers Change and their 1984 hit ‘Change of Heart’, for most people this will be the iconic 80’s sounding keyboard that stands out.

The 90’s influence comes from the vocals, sounding like something you played on cassette while cruising with the windows down, acting as though your life was a teenage summer road trip straight out of a John Hughes film. Yeah this track is probably that good. It’s unique, and in the ever-competitive electronic music world that is the most important thing a talented producer will tap into.
