There are a few consistent things people love in this world: summer, free things and surprises (good ones, naturally). GRIZ is ticking all these boxes having dropped a surprise, summer mixtape, available for free download, entitled Chasing The Golden Hour Part 1. What a sweetie! Or maybe legend might suit a 25-year-old producer from Detroit a little better.

GRiZ (known to some as Grant Kwiecinski) began making music while he was at College. Having played many a frat party in this time he finally released his debut album, End Of The World Party, in 2011. His last official album launch was back in march with Say It Loud, and now he has shown himself to be a kind soul, delivering the 9 track mixtape, The Golden Hour Part 1, showing us his background in saxophone, and the feels of warm summer evenings.

The tracks range from hip hop influences, to jazz and progressive funk, all sounds GRiZ is known for. There are collaborations with the likes of Muzzy Bear, and an electronic undercurrent floating through the whole mixtape. Each track makes you feel like you could get up and groove, or sink back under a warm sunset with a cocktail in hand. Ultimately GRiZ aimed to “recreate the carefree good vibes you feel when it’s just about sunset on a summer evening”, quite literally the golden hour. Get ready for a long summer of chill and hopefully a part 2 from GRiZ.

You can download The Golden Hour Part 1 via GRiZ’s page for free. Be sure to give him a shout out on Facebook to thank him for this kind gesture.
