Live Review: Client Liaison 'Queen' + Tour Dates
Client Liaison's first single 'Queen' off their upcoming self-titled EP has been awarded iTunes Single of the Week, invoking the ghosts of 80s and disco pop
Client Liaison loves the 80s. It certainly doesn't take a genius to know that, with their devotion shining through the way they wear their pants, their retro-fied band emblem and the raspy organ sounds heralding each track. It takes a certain amount of flair and sophistication to live the image, but it seems the pair operate effortlessly.
From winning Triple J Unearthed early in the year to opening Laneway Festival, it seems like they have had a big year, but they are not one to rest on their laurels; releasing their debut self-titled EP on the 5th of September.
Their first single 'Queen' is a tasteful teaser of what's to come from the six-track EP. In 'Queen', the quick-jabbing synths and raspy organ guides Monte Morgan's tenacious voice in with a strong-willed motive. Like pulling out rabbits from their magician's hat, Client Liaison are a bag of surprises, the lyrics are as motivating as entertaining, "When I was queen, I will worship me. I will do anything and everything to be beyond human." but the song is felt more strongly through its hook and melody which Harvey and Monte inserts themselves into; punchy bass lines, twangy guitar solos, saxophones vacating the bridge.
