Live Review: MNEK 'Wrote A Song About You' (Kaytranada Edition)

11 July 2014 | 4:36 pm | Lauren Payne

A brand new Kaytranada remix has surfaced and this time it's of MNEK's soulful track 'Wrote A Song About You'.

There's been a sudden rise in soulful male voices amongst the electronic scene over recent years and MNEK is one of them who just keeps delivering great tracks with every release.

Collaborating with DUKE DUMONT was our first glimpse and what MNEK could do and now his name has soared across the globe and his voice has flown even further. We first heard MNEK's track 'Wrote A Song About You' roughly a month ago, and now one of our favourite Canadian producers has put his own spin on the piece and revealed a great new rework.

KAYTRANADA has a gift for remixing tracks. If anything has "KAYTRANADA Edition" placed at the end of it, you know it's going to be good and of course this piece is no exception. The original mix for 'Wrote A Song About You' has a beautiful piano track that drives it alongside MNEK's wonderful vocals before popping synths take over however, KAYTRANADA has focuses on the vocals a tad more and made them the solid backbone to his edition.

Opening with the sweet vocals, 'Wrote A Song About You' then features a series of beaming synths that continue to burst around the echoing voice. A steady beat thumps behind the synths but the track just seems to feel a heel of a lot brighter with the synths just flying in between each element and joining them together. The vocals have been chopped and placed in prime positions across the track transforming wonderful into perfection. Strings are brought into the remix towards the climax and it just puts the cherry on top of this wonderful rework.

'Wrote A Song About You' is bound to explode even more as it spreads like wildfire across the internet and this remix no doubt will also. Both KAYTRANADA and MNEK are currently touring and will hopefully stopping by us sometime soon.
