Live Review: ZHU 'Faded' (Taches Remix)

30 June 2014 | 12:22 am | Lauren Payne

UK producer Taches is now the fifth person to remix ZHU's hit track 'Faded'.

You would have no doubt heard ZHU's track 'Faded' in one form or another in the past month. After the single's initial release, it spread like wildfire across the internet and has been remixed by AMTRAC, LIDO, ODESZA and THE MAGICIAN already.

Today we have a fifth remix for you to listen to from UK producer TACHES. If you've had five remixes produced for one of your singles then it's probably quite obvious that you've hit the nail on the head and this last remix has brought things down a notch to a steady, well-structured piece that just flows with complete ease.

ZHU's original mix for 'Faded' has quite a nice groove to it that is created by a solid being and nice light, percussive synths. The track is quite mellow and doesn't really have many explosive elements. The vocal track keeps thing quite tame with it's soothing effect and soft distortions.

TACHES has kept the initial melody and chopped it up a bit to create a new melody that still flows well, but has a few more accents than ZHU's mix. With a snare beat charging through the track, the short bursts work together with hand claps to provide a nice spine to the melody beneath it. The mix remains very minimal as it plays on adding in only small synths along the way. Vocals to come in towards the centre of the track but only as distorted, ghost-like vocals that hover for a while and then become singular elements that come in every now and again.

TACHES remix focus on the melody much more than the vocal mix and this allows for a more creative edge as sometimes a vocal mix can define a track. The mix fits in with the other four remixes but still has it's own clear identity that audience will be drawn to once the 'Faded' remix is officially released on June 29.

ZHU will be travelling to Australia very soon to perform at this year's Listen Out festival and no doubt 'faded' will be a popular track during his set.
