20 May 2014 | 5:54 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Zak Rowling’s electronic moniker Weakling sees his latest release 'Be Jealous' out and into the world.

Spanning across 4 EP’s, Zak Rowling’s stack of originals has grown immensely since his start back in 2011. His moniker, WEAKLING, sees his latest release 'Be Jealous' out and into the world.

The Brisbane producer has a tendency to mix the potential sultriness of dance music with soulful samples, to create a smooth tone.

‘Be Jealous’ sees the introduction as a percussively driven entity, fusing castanets, a deep bass hit, and other noticeable elements. The addition of the vocals into the mix equalises the soulful vibe that becomes prominent. However, it is the combination of the vocals with the heavy synths that make it a heaps groovy track.

The track then continues to almost bounce through the remainder, alternating the depth of the low synth to contrast the layers at that particular time. One thing that remains consistent however, is the r’n’b inspired sample of the vocalist, one that definitely brings that soulful element to the track.

WEAKLING has delved deep into the depths of sounds much different from that of his previous originals. He has experimented with a gorgeously rich tone that just emanates from every aspect of the track, and it’s really quite smooth.
