Live Review: LISTEN: Shinichi Osawa 'Breaking Through the Night'

His tendency to pair big beats with a huge hook that flips on itself every 30 or so seconds has really become definitive of SHINICHI OSAWA’s sound.

SHINICHI-OSAWA

If there’s any person on Earth that’s squeezed themselves into every single crevice and travelled down every road within the genres of house and electronica, I think it’s safe to say that SHINICHI OSAWA is definitely up there as one of, if not the strongest contender.

His tendency to pair big beats with a huge hook that flips on itself every 30 or so seconds has really become definitive of SHINICHI OSAWA’s sound. With all this being said though, just how the hell does he keep bringing these oddities and brilliances to the game? Set to release his new EP titled “Breaking Through the Night” on the 7th of April through label Kitsune (who have previously done a Soundcloud Wrap for Purple Sneakers), the EP itself will feature 4 tracks; 2 originals and 2 remixes.

Short and so damn sweet.

The actual title track ‘Breaking Through the Night’ is this big blend of what begins with about 3 different percussive elements layered onto each other like a huge sandwich, and eventually, ends up as this cake of creamy hooks, sweet snares, and of course you can’t forget the icing; that synth.

In traditional OSAWA style, there is of course that same hook that becomes heavy, gets stripped back to almost nothing and is then brought back out again in this explosion of bass, beats and bold sounds. It’s actually really cool to see that SHINICHI OSAWA is still at the top of his game, and I think this track certainly furthers that.
