Live Review: WATCH: Yuck 'Middle Sea' (Official Video)

17 September 2013 | 2:50 pm | Hannah Galvin

Yuck have dropped the clip to their sophomore album's first single 'Middle Sea'.

London three piece YUCK have announced details of their forthcoming sophomore record Glow & Behold; the follow up to their debut self-titled LP released on Fat Possum two years ago. The band have released the clip to the album's track 'Middle Sea'.

What begins as a game of tennis between two men, the clip to 'Middle Sea' ends up employing a bitter relationship ridden with angst, struggle and frustration. The older competitor shows no sign of good sportsmanship to his junior opponent (played by Yuck's own Jonny Rogoff). At first glance this comes across as the dude being a sore loser, but if you delve deeper it would appear that this is a disconnected bond between two males as close as father and son; the tennis game acting as a testament to the respect these two individuals have for each other. Ending on bad terms, nothing about the match has improved the said relationship.

The track itself is just how we remember Yuck from their debut album, though that isn't to say the new track signifies cloned material for their sophomore release. There's a 90's influence burrowed deep within their sound, partly due to the slight distortion of the electric guitar that has come to be known as a prime ingredient to Yuck's signature sound. With this running alongside the expressive vocals of Max Bloom and the fervent instrumentation, 'Middle Sea' is a track we've immediately fallen in love with, and we can't wait to see what the rest of Glow & Behold brings.
