SET LIST: Giraffage, Cosmo’s Midnight + More @ Oxford Art Factory
Sydney’s underground hub Oxford Art Factory experienced a pretty huge night last Saturday eve. Hosting three live acts, as well as three DJ sets in between, OAF welcomed San Francisco’s GIRAFFAGE as part of his very first Australian tour!
Giraffage dropped his sophomore LP Needs through Alpha Pup Records in February. Soaked in a blend of trap, r’n’b, chillwave and electronica, the latest full length effort is yet to be dried out due to its wide and partly international following. This was made pretty evident on the night of the show based on the huge turnout that occupied the venues main room, making it almost impossible to find a spot of OAF’s floor.
Although this couldn’t have been done without the help of the dude’s support acts. Astral People (the presenters of the show) put themselves against Bad Jackson for a collaborative DJ set under the name Astral Huggz, before filling in separate time slots for solo spins in between the live acts of the night; Leon Osborn (Perth) and Cosmo’s Midnight (Sydney). These particular producers and DJs really set the bar high for Giraffage‘s set, as the stellar supports did plenty more than just briskly warm up their audience.
By the time main support act Cosmo’s Midnight came on, the crowd had grown fuller, possibly drunker and even more rowdier than earlier in the night. The twins nurtured a consistent beat that was welcomed by all, progressively getting louder and thicker as their set went on. Not only did they launch their brand new single ‘The Dofflin’, they also played some of their original tracks (including material from their Surge EP). Though what was really impressive was their rich and highly creative remixes that had been tailored to completely suit their own style.
FLUME ‘SLEEPLESS’ (COSMO’S MIDNIGHT MIX)
COSMO’S MIDNIGHT FEAT. NICOLE MILLAR ‘PHANTASM’
INDIAN SUMMER ‘FOREIGN FORMULA’ (COSMO’S MIDNIGHT REMIX)
COSMO’S MIDNIGHT ‘THE DOFFLIN’ (WAVE RACER REMIX)
COSMO’S MIDNIGHT ‘THE DOFFLIN’
Making it incredibly difficult to utilise the short gap in between the live artists anywhere else besides the stage, Astral Huggz quickly jumped back on the decks before the man of the night boarded his very first Sydney stage.
From the moment he entered the space, Giraffage caused quite the ruckus amongst the wild, young crowd. As soon as he clocked in, it was almost as if his Sydney fans had been set free from an enclosure, as they got looser and sweatier with each dropped beat.
OWL EYES ‘CLOSURE’ (GIRAFFAGE REMIX)
STARDUST ‘MUSIC SOUNDS BETTER WITH YOU’ (GIRAFFAGE REMIX)
GIRAFFAGE & XXYYXX ‘EVEN THOUGH’
GIRAFFAGE ‘UNDRESS U’
MILEY CYRUS ‘PARTY IN THE USA’ (GIRAFFAGE REMIX)
JANET JACKSON ‘SOMEONE TO CALL MY LOVER’ (GIRAFFAGE REMIX)
Coupled with a stunning light show that cascaded over the crowd, Giraffage, and the four hanging pieces of white material behind him, both aural and visual senses heightened for each punter; eventually leaving the venues womb in a pursuit of immense satisfaction.
