WIN: Japandroids 'Celebration Rock' LPs

28 June 2012 | 9:00 am | Tom Hutchins

It has been a long wait for us when it comes to the release of the sophomore LP from Japandroids. Luckily we have some to give away.

Is it June 29th yet or what? It has seriously been a long and annoying wait for us when it comes to the release of JAPANDROIDS' sophomore LP, Celebration Rock.

We have successfully destroyed the album's lead single, 'The House That Heaven Built' and it's accompanying B-Side, 'Jack The Ripper' for everyone else in the Sneakers office - so to know that the album is almost here, it's almost mindblowing. The tracks have demonstrated a distinct maturing from the Canadian duo, whilst still maintaining their original take on Garage Rock.

And we're certainly not the only ones to be overly excited about the album's impending release, with every taste-making critic from Rolling Stone, to NME, to Pitchfork and even BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe getting behind the guys most impressive creation yet. It's not surprising as the album encapsulates the live presence of Japandroids', with an incredibly high energy and youthful Punk tendencies translated in a unique and intriguing way.

And the high energy influence is clear in the reasoning behind recording a second album. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Guitarist/Vocalist Brian King stated: “During that whole time, we never really talked about what we were going to do when all the touring ended – we were just so happy playing shows. At the end of 2010, we were basically at the point where it was like, "OK, you want to keep touring? Well, you gotta go make another record....”

So to summarise, Celebration Rock is a kickarse album. And Japandroids are a kickarse band - one that we hope will be around for a while.
