Gauci release triumphant new pop banger, ‘In The Night’
Sydney’s very own GAUCI return with the title-track off their forthcoming EP In The Night. Just off the back of their recent track ‘Paradise’ (also on the EP), the trio are back with another gleeful, triumphant disco banger that continues their turn towards pop-sensitive music.
The band consists of brother and sister Antonia and David Gauci, and Felix Lush. With each member of the band having unique musical backgrounds while working on solo projects too, they combine as a trio making smooth Italo disco, with a knack for being able to blend dance music with features from contemporary pop music.
‘In The Night’ is the perfect embodiment of this statement. The track takes tropes from dance music genres, and combines them with charming melodies and synths. It’s simple four-to-the-floor drum rhythm, groovy bassline and euphoric synths hit hard and early, creating an infectious platform for a silky smooth vocal delivery from Antonia Gauci. Her vocals are powerful and compelling, and bring the simple dance beat to the next level.
Lyrically, however the track is not as blissful. The track is about second chances and fading relationships. It’s about that period where love at first sight ends and reality really kicks in. It’s a unique spin on a classic pop motif of infatuation, and is an exciting teaser for what’s expected to come thematically from the trio’s forthcoming EP.
Its big breaks, whirly synth lines and euphoric peaks build the anthemic qualities every pop song must have. The high production value, and rumbling sonic create for an equally club and radio friendly banger. It’s a representation of what a truly ground-breaking pop song is in 2019, and leaves me crawling for more news on their EP coming later this year.
