Live Review: PREMIERE: Black Summer takes Xavier Dunn's 'Isic Tutor' to mysterious heights in new remix

Basically evolving into Australia's answer to SAM SMITH with a unique twist, XAVIER DUNN is seriously on the rise. He's worked with just about everyone, from AIRLING and JESSE PORSCHES to having the likes of GOLDEN VESSEL remix his songs, and he's also cracked a cool 22 million streams on Spotify. He's really making moves with his neo-soul tinged indie pop, blending genres into a melting pot of sincere and heartfelt music, and his latest single 'Isic Tutor' is no exception.

Featuring his trademark falsetto soaring gently above a bed of thriving, shifting electronica, 'Isic Tutor' is one of Dunn's best works yet, and while he's definitely in favour of shaking things up and working outside his comfort zone, he has perhaps not heard his music quite like this.

Enter BLACK SUMMER, the 11-year-old who took Australia by storm back in 2015 with his EDM singles uploaded to Triple J Unearthed. He was quickly picked up by the station, and landed a slot at Groovin' The Moo that year, where Dunn was also playing. Thanks to a choice moment where Black Summer's dad had to go and run some errands, Dunn asked if he could hang with the EDM wunderkind until he came back, they got to talking and became friends. Fast forward to 2018, and now Black Summer has stepped up to the plate for remix duties of Dunn's new single! We love a full circle moment.

What was once a gentle, electronic song that is reminiscent of early FLUME in parts, and only enhanced by Dunn's beautiful voice has been turned into a deep, dark and mysterious tune that never quite breaks the tension. It's a showcase in how far Black Summer has come since his early days, and an exciting portrait of what's still to come from the young gun.

A musical pairing that perfectly complements each other while bringing something new and exciting to the fore, Black Summer's remix of Xavier Dunn's 'Isic Tutor' is an exciting step forward for both of them, and we can't wait to see what they do next.
