Live Review: Zapéd reveals his vocals and a fresh electro-pop sound on 'Push'

4 September 2017 | 3:31 pm | Max Lewis

Brisbane producer Zapéd has teased his first release in over two years with 'Push', a spacious and warm ambient electro-pop track featuring his own vocals.

ZAPÉD aka Jordan De Pas is a Brisbane-based producer best known for his remixes of tracks by San MeiMark Maxwell and Austen, as well as his own tracks 'Prague' (ft. Groszek) and 'Spatial Impression'.

Fresh from hot rotation on Triple J's Unearthed and curating his own electronic festival Arcadia in late September, Zapéd has released 'Push', the first taste of his music since 2015. However, there's also something special about this track, as it's also the first time he's sung on his own music!

'Push' displays enormous space through a generous use of reverb, yet crisp production and powerful vocals deliver a closeness that fills the void perfectly. Guitar lines and synth pads filter in through a very club-like keys hook and a pounding four-to-the-floor kick and shaker combo. It toes the line between ambient and electro-pop with finesse, and for his vocal debut Zapéd has shown he is more than up to the task of creating a luscious pop track on his own.
