Live Review: Explore Forevr's ominous 'Columbus' from their upcoming debut album(s)

14 July 2017 | 7:14 am | Lloyd Crackett

Enter the intricate world of Forevr with their lead single 'Columbus' and get a taste of what is to come from their upcoming debut albums

The first thing to note about FOREVR is that they are not playing. Announcing their debut albums (yes plural), Classics and Death Is a Miracle, first single ‘Columbus’ and an accompanying shockingly good video. Forevr are an intricate force to be reckoned with, they are not doing anything on a whim. After extensively playing all over Brisbane in 2016, supporting the likes of PVT and Explosions In The Sky – they holed up in Tasmania, got two new band members and pumped out two albums. They have a plan and it’s to lead you into the digital doom soundscape of Forevr.

‘Columbus’ is the first single and video from Classics and it’s a doozy. The crystalline vocals of Sam George-Allen guide you through the somewhat indescribable soundscape. Little truly can be gained from trying to put to paper some of the sounds, often they sound frighteningly familiar like domestic quirks, the clink of a glass, metal on metal, yet all eaten and spat out by computers and harnessed for the audio potential.

'Columbus’ is simply a song you must listen to, preferably with the video to receive the distinct feeling of delayed shock. The song and video clip was inspired by the story of Hoisington, Kansas which experienced a freak tornado in 2001, that destroyed 1/3 of the town while the high school prom was going on. The students inside were entirely unaware until the end of their night. The video, created by Mia Forrest, makes use of 90s debutantes and prom goers as the wholesome clips are edited to evoke a sense of uncanny that perfectly complements the track. Forevr’s first clip and single is a precise creation, thundering and ominous through its intricacies of expert electronic production, eerie vocals and spot on visuals.
