Live Review: PREMIERE: Rudi's remix of Taj Ralph's 'Night Catcher' is midnight euphoria

5 July 2017 | 2:30 pm | Jackson Langford

When TAJ RALPH first released 'Night Catcher' back in May, it was a bouncing indie jam that showcased his vocals to their full effect. Between those hazy summery guitar twangs and his silky smooth vocal delivery, the song absolute screams sunshine. Each note melts in your ears and leaves you thirsty for more. But, it's no secret we here at Purple Sneakers love ourselves a remix, so we were very excited to hear that 'Night Catcher' has been given some special treatment now.

Naturally, when RUDI comes along and flips the script entirely, upon first listen it can be a little shocking. What was once a song that beamed sunlight from every angle is now a song that hums beautifully under twinkling stars. The haze of Taj Ralph's guitar has been exchanged for hypnotic synths. It's almost as if you're gazing on the golden dull of street lights. As day turns into night, Rudi is there to turn 'Night Catcher' into a wholly different feel from what it once was.

This might seem like foreign territory for Rudi, who is actually one of the lead guitarists of the DELTA RIGGS - whose rock sound both thrashes and sooths. However, Rudi did produce the original version of 'Night Catcher'. That insight has clearly lead him to understand the song on a far more complex level than normal, and allowed him to twist the very fabric of it into a completely new sound. It's stunning, hypnotic and the perfect comedown after a hot summer's day.
