Live Review: Florian's 'Star Crossed Lover' is anything but a tragedy

Despite popular opinion, there were a lot of things that were questionable about Romeo & Juliet. First of all, it is absolutely impossible that two lovers can go from first meeting to 'til death do us part' in literally four days. Secondly, how is this play considered Shakespeare's best when Hamlet, Othello and Macbeth clearly outdo it in almost every way? Regardless of all that naysaying, the iconic play did sprout one of the most hopelessly romantic phrases of all time: 'star-crossed lovers.' To be star-crossed lovers, your love must consistently endure external forces trying to break you apart. But, as history and literature have proven time and time again, love conquers all and FLORIAN is here to show it.

Shining bright pastel colours of pink, blue and yellow, Florian is making a name for herself with her debut single 'Star Crossed Lover.' But, much unlike the play which coined the term, it is far from tragic. An unafraid pop banger sees Florian declare the strength of her love when she sings "You, my star crossed lovers/You weren't like the others and neither am I."

The most enticing thing about this stunning track is it sounds like it was plucked straight from the 80s. In fact, everything about how Florian has washed the track in technicolour make it sound so 80s it could be vintage. However, with an uncompromising flair and impeccable style, she has taken an historic play, with a quick detour in the 80s, and refashioned this tried and true message for a 2017 audience. While there never was a story of more woe than that of Juliet and her Romeo, Florian's story is going to bound to have its happy ending.
