Live Review: Get around Goodbye Moon's sombre new single 'Overbite'

28 November 2016 | 9:55 am | Lloyd Crackett

Goodbye Moon are a duo hailing from Brisbane with a penchant for emotionally distressing yet sonically pleasing alternative RNB.

There is a natural instinct in music reviewing to whittle a band’s sound down to a set of references. GOODBYE MOON’S 'Overbite' makes that near impossible.

There’s a lilt to their production that’s reminiscent of Cashmere Cat but only vaguely. The verses flow like Rat Boy but there is a lack of needless bravado. The raps are not for the sake of it, but to honestly express a distressing feeling. Goodbye Moon, hailing from Brisbane, is a much needed breath of fresh air for alternative RnB everywhere.

‘Overbite’ is a song that develops; sensual RnB vocals paired with an eclectic yet seamless beat kick it off. The husky lyricism draws you in and near the end, the track discovers its edge where a smooth and earnest rap lays down an attempt of emotional honesty and woefully succeeds. Goodbye Moon's focus on perfecting the words laid over their meticulous production assures that they are a band of substance.

Goodbye Moon is comprised of Timothy Aird and David Webster, two talented dudes who recently collaborated with Polographia for the second time, for Polographia’s latest EP Friends on a track called 'Hurricane'. Polographia’s collaboration with Goodbye Moon was an absolute no brainer, as they believe “they have a real bright future ahead.” We think so too.
