Imperium In Imperio: Good music, great cause

8 November 2016 | 10:59 am | Abbey Lenton

Imperium In Imperio is in Melbourne this weekend, and its the perfect way to fill your Friday night with funky beats and a fabulous cause.

As part of this year’s Melbourne Music Week, the bonafide legends at TEEF Records (helmed by Tommy Faith and former Purple Sneakers editor Tom Hutchins) have gone above and beyond to deliver an event that both sounds good and feels good. Titled IMPERIUM IN IMPERIO (also the name of the compilation the label puts out) is the perfect way to fill your Friday night with funky beats and a fabulous cause.

This Friday night, the 11th of November, IMPERIUM IN IMPERIO promises to be an evening of unique electronic talent, with a fine selection of emerging electronic artists set to perform, in order to raise funds for Oxfam’s Syrian Refugee Appeal. With acts like ANATOLE, BRAILLE FACE, HUNTLY and SAATSUMA all on the bill, our metaphorical eyes are lighting up at the thought of this. So, we wanted to give you the lowdown on some of the brilliant acts that will take to the stage.

SAATSUMA's lead vocalist sings with the most charming tinge of an Australian accent, making them a fitting addition to this very local lineup. Extremely new to the scene, the band have already garnered industry attention for their tracks ‘Floating’ and ‘Storm’ each with buzzing hooks and angelic melodies.

Braille Face has a youthful integrity to his music that is reinforced by subtle instrumentals, stripped back to express the honesty of his lyrics. Drum beats and piano keys wallop in the background, bringing to the forefront Braille Face’s folky tones. Check out the song ‘Because’ for a simple but enthralling tune.

With a myriad of instruments and unique sounds, Anatole crafts whimsical music that feels like it could be the soundtrack to your life. Sweeping strings and trickling percussion, each of the musician’s tracks feel emotion, capable of telling a complex story with hardly any words at all.

Self-described on their Soundcloud as, “3 bffs making doof you can cry to,” Huntly do exactly that. The trio shape subtle layers and sythny chords around the strength of lead singer Elly Scrine’s striking vocals. The lyrics are raw, and sometimes verging on bitter. Huntly are sure to give a passionate and honest performance.

In partnership with Melbourne Music Week, all profits from ticket sales will be donated directly to Oxfam's Syrian Refugee appeal. Head on over to 1000 £ Bend this Friday night for Imperium In Imperio, a night of good music and a great cause.
