Live Review: Yumi Zouma 'Alena' (Race Banyon Remix)

11 August 2015 | 3:48 pm | Emma Jones

Yumi Zouma released the ideal summer track a while ago with 'Alena', and now fellow New Zealander Race Banyon has stepped up for remix duties.

New Zealand's YUMI ZOUMA released the ideal summer track not to long ago in the form of 'Alena', and if you were thinking it couldn't sound anymore carefree, you'd now be wrong thanks to RACE BANYON. He's jumped on board to remix the track, taking what was there and breathing fresh life into it, turning it into a nearly 5 and a half minute dream.

Stripping it back and taking a minimal approach, Race Banyon has taken some of the twinkle and some of the synth chords from the original and instead replaced it with spacious beats and serene synth sounds. Still keeping with the summer vibes, the original vocals are still in tact and are also perfectly suited to the new arrangements.

Somewhat subdued, it might not be as dancefloor friendly as it's original counterpart, but Race Banyon's take on 'Alena' is nevertheless warm and bright, and will undoubtedly feature in many, many summer playlists. Chilled and sweet, this is an innocent and gentle take on what has become a pretty big song, and may come as a surprise to some fans of the original. However, if you stick with it, your patience is rewarded with a sweet beat breakdown and spliced vocal samplings - something we are definitely not complaining about.

Race Banyon's remix comes just in time for Yumi Zouma's Aus tour, dates are below. It's no secret that the next few months are looking very exciting for both parties, and we can't wait to see what happens next!
