Live Review: Total Giovanni 'When We Break'

15 May 2015 | 10:00 am | Emma Jones

Melbourne band Total Giovanni release yet another dancefloor burner with 'When We Break', taking disco straight from Studio 64 and putting it on YouTube.

It's no secret at all how much we here at Purple Sneakers love the disco tunes of TOTAL GIOVANNI, and their latest track 'When We Break' is no different! We knew they were ones to watch in 2015, and it seems they're hellbent on proving us right.

Perhaps their most dance-y yet, the TG boys have pulled grooves right out of Studio 64 and put them on YouTube for this new tune. Clocking in at nearly 5 minutes, the impassioned vocals of frontman Vachel Spirason, once again forlorn and love sick, moan over the impeccably groovy bass, crisp drum beats and vocal harmonies.

Adding in some synth breaks and even more passion from Spirason, the track is one that will have you side-stepping almost immediately, and one that is perfectly suited to the blue light discos the band seem intent on creating soundtracks for. The nostalgia is there as always, but it's Total Giovanni's ability to add in just a little bit extra that makes their songs so attention grabbing and enjoyable.

Total Giovanni continue their whirlwind rise to fame and fortune, and are gearing up to perform their first headline tour, including four sell-out shows in Melbourne, and a fifth and final one nearly sold out too. They've also appeared at the Bendigo leg of Groovin' The Moo, and will be DJing at Splendour In The Grass. There are rumours we can expect new music from them later in the year, so we can only hope that not only is this confirmed, but that is hurries up!
