Live Review: Total Giovanni 'Paradise'

28 March 2015 | 10:00 am | Emma Jones

Melbourne disco revivalists Total Giovanni have released another single, titled 'Paradise', as well as announcing an East Coast tour.

Last year, we predicted Melbourne band TOTAL GIOVANNI would be ones to watch for this year, and it would seem with the release of their third single, we might be right. Having recovered from their set at Golden Plains earlier this month, the passionate lovers have released 'Paradise', possibly their grooviest track yet!

Clocking in at over 6 minutes, 'Paradise' is a journey of sorts. Starting off with a subtle beat and finger clicking, the impassioned, dramatic vocals of frontman Vachel Spirason echo as he sings about all the things he could be for you; your day, your night etc. The lyrics paint a picture of romantic frustration, delivered in a way that makes you melt. How anyone could resist him is beyond me.

The chorus is where things get really funky, with a jazzy bassline, bongos and high pitched vocal harmonies singing of how it would be "paradise" if you were with them. The 80's are an obvious influence in this track, particularly with the dramatic efforts put in by the Spirason.

Whilst the track is quite a serious song about the frustrations of unrequited love, you can't help but have fun with it. Each element of the track combines flawlessly to create a groove that is near impossible to resist, and is guaranteed to get stuck in your head for days after just one listen.

Along with the release of 'Paradise' comes the announcement of an East Coast tour for T0tal Giovanni as well as playing the Bendigo leg of Groovin' The Moo. Having made a name for themselves first and foremost as a visceral, high energy/high intensity act, these shows will not be ones to miss!

Total Giovanni tour dates:

April 2 - Wollongong, Parkside @ Waves

April 25 - Sydney, Goodgod Small Club

May 2 - Bendigo, Groovin' the Moo *SOLD OUT*

May 8 - Melbourne, Gasometer
