Live Review: LISTEN: Phoenix 'Chloroform' (Sleigh Bells Remix)

30 September 2013 | 6:14 pm | Lauren Payne

Sleigh Bells have released their first cover ever of Phoenix's track 'Chloroform', which feature no guitars!

When you think SLEIGH BELLS, you think crunchy guitars that are layered upon themselves, like the mattresses in the Princess and the Pea. You think of raw energy that is shoved in their tracks and the unpolished edge that is always evident in their work.

But you won't find any guitars on the SLEIGH BELLS remix of PHOENIX's track 'Chloroform'. It honestly doesn't sound anything like what we're used to hearing from them, which of course doesn't mean that it's not a great cover.

The band's signature vocals can be heard, but have taken on a lighter tone in this track showing an overall softer side. PHOENIX do have snippets of the original mix stepping in and out of 'Chloroform', and the whole track really is quite lovely.

PHOENIX have had many of their tracks adapted by different acts since the release of their new album Bankrupt!. GRIZZLY BEAR, R.KELLY and A-TRAK have all had a crack at remixing the French boys tracks, but this one is by far my favourite.
