More Empire Of The Sun More Empire Of The Sun

After weeks of teasing the “emergence of a new era” and a year after singer Luke Steele told The Music, “This is the perfect time for Empire Of The Sun to come back,” the duo—Nick Littlemore and Luke Steele—have returned with the new single Changes.

The first taste of new music from Empire Of The Sun in nearly eight years, Changes is an epic pop tune from the electronic duo. It feels similar enough to their older material to resonate with longtime fans while being able to connect with new fans.

You can check out the extravagant music video directed by filmmaker Michael Maxxis below.

Nick Littlemore—or Lord Littlemore—said about the band’s rebirth in a press release, “Changes represents the shifting sands of time, empires rise and fall but the sun shall shine on. Come once more into the world we’ve created, delve deeper within and be rewarded with its ever-expanding story, each and every one is invited to explore the new era.”

Luke Steele—or Emperor Steele—added, “Changes was a breakthrough track for us. It felt like the moment of clarity when it became evident [that] we were in the new era, our time of rebirth, the next chapter of Empire.”

Empire Of The Sun have enjoyed great success in Australia with the release of their three ARIA top-10 charting albums, Walking On A Dream (2008), Ice On The Dune (2013) and Two Vines (2016). So far, they’ve won eight ARIA Awards and two APRA Awards.

In October, Empire Of The Sun and the Nick Littlemore-starring group, PNAU dropped their long-awaited collaboration, AEIOU, which features on the latter’s new album, Hyperbolic.

AEIOU is significant because it marks the first time Empire Of The Sun and PNAU have worked together and signals Empire Of The Sun’s first new music in seven years.

“I feel like this is the perfect time for Empire Of The Sun to come back,” Steele said in a The Music cover story interview last year.

“I think there’s always been tremendous love for this band… I had so many calls, emails, messages and requests from people yearning for the songs and the music. There were a lot of testimonies about what they’d been through, from people getting over cancer to getting married to giving them hope during moments of deep depression.

“It became quite evident that we had become conduits or ambassadors, and we have to honour that. This is the new era of Empire Of The Sun.”
