Donald Glover is preparing to release his final two albums under the Childish Gambino name, the rapper and actor revealed on Instagram Live.

Glover announced that two albums are coming during a GILGA Radio livestream on Instagram. “We’re releasing Atavista, but after that, there’s the final Childish Gambino album—a soundtrack for the fans,” he said (per Uproxx).

Atavista was teased last month, with Glover revealing that the forthcoming album will contain “updated” reworked versions of songs from his 2020 album, 3/15/20. Hypebeast reported that 3/15/20 was originally posted on the star’s website but taken down after 12 hours before appearing on streaming services a week later.

The forthcoming album’s 2020 release featured collaborations with Ariana Grande, 21 Savage and more and marked his first album since 2016’s Awaken, My Love!

In 2017, Childish Gambino told Huffington Post about his plans to retire the Childish Gambino moniker, saying it “wouldn’t be punk anymore” to drag the name on too long.

“There’s nothing worse than a third sequel, like a third movie, and we’re like, ‘Again?’” he commented while promoting the TV series Atlanta. You know, I like it when something’s good, and when it comes back, there’s a reason to come back. There’s a reason to do that.”

Glover continued, “I feel like there’s gotta be a reason to do things, and I always had a reason to be punk. Being punk just always felt really good to me. We always looked at Atlanta as a punk show, and I feel like the direction I would go with Childish Gambino wouldn’t be punk anymore.

“As much as Redbone is a punk song because it’s a gospel song that’s on the radio, I’m like, there’s only so far you can go before you just are the radio.”

Last year, E!’s Laverne Cox asked if Glover was really retiring the Childish Gambino name, to which he responded, “I’m actually working, I’m in the studio. I’ve been bringing people in, like secret people, working on little things. But I've just been, you know, making it for fun right now. But soon, something will happen, I promise. Something will happen… He’ll [Childish Gambino] be back.”
