Our hot picks for Melbourne Music Week

melbourne music week

Melbourne Music Week is gearing up and is just under a fortnight away. The week will see More than 300 artists will play nearly 70 events across 23 locations from 3 to 12 December, marking Melbourne’s undisputed return as Australia’s arts, culture and live music capital.

The festival features a diverse range of genres, from rock, hip hop and jazz, to hyper-pop, techno and house music, with a distinct focus on local musicians, the LGBTIQ+ community, female artists, Aboriginal talent and other diverse cultures within the live music industry.

There’s a whole lot going on in Naarm from the 3rd, so we’ve decided to break down some of our more underground, underrated events going on during that week.

Saturday 4th of December
Kicking this off on December 4th at MMW Club is the WAT Artists Presents Fam Jam party, featuring the likes of Akosia, Dan Cut Copy, Morgan Wright and In2Stellar, set to be a night of raging live techno.

On the same Saturday is Kamp Kamp at Miscellania. Kamp Kamp is a queer collective built around dance music, whoare creating an eclectic evening where open minded people can come together to create, play and enjoy.

Renowned Melbourne Party Lucid will be taking place at Colour Club on the fourth, featuring OK EG off the back of their latest record on Wax’o Paradiso, alongside club stalwarts Andras, priya, Marley Swain and Sasha Geyer.

Wednesday 8th of December
Comin’ Down The Calder will perform at The Curtin on the 8th of December. The project is the union of Dallas Woods, Galaxy Hop, and Nadia Phillips – a diverse group of artists based in and around Castlemaine. The three artists aim to celebrate and connect regional Victoria with Melbourne.

Thursday 9th of December
Coalesce will be taking over Max Watts on December the 9th, for a night of pop chaos. The record label and collective are known for their releases of electronic pop music and abrasive textures, and their lineup perfectly reflects that. Featuring the likes of Ninajirachi, daine, Hearteyes, Lonelyspeck and more.

Fem Fantasy will present Hot Fem Summer also that night and into the early morning of the 10th, promising to serve beats, looks and dance, offering a space for growth where artists and puntes can push their boundaries and try something new.

Friday 10th of December
The Toff in Town will host Finding Figaro’s Live Cuts with Alex Albrecht, Audrey Powne and Colette on the 10th. The live performances will be recorded, with each artist selecting one track to be mixed, mastered, and pressed to wax. The record is then sent out exclusively to attendees of the show as a memento of the unique event.

11th of December
The following day the Finding Figaro crew will compile a similar event, this time featuring OK EG, Thomas Gray and Liam Ebbs and Daniel Pisano.

12th of December
Teether and Kuya Neil, C.FRIM, Mulalo and more will be taking over Max Watts on Sunday the 12th of December, for a transformative evening of music from the outer reaches of the dancefloor.
