BVT is a Warrang/Sydney based Hip Hop/R&B producer and artist. She's has recently come off the back of the 'Supervillain' tour with dance-pop group, 'Haiku Hands' and has also been nominated as a finalist for the APRA AMCOS x MARDI GRAS showcase for Emerging Queer Artists. Her mission statement as an artist is to bridge the gap between LGBTQI+ community and the hip hop world by creating a space where queer folk can be represented and validated through her music and Queerness.

On her positioning as an artist, BVT stated, “The genre wouldn’t open up, so I made my space. It’s time to kick down the door and let people like me in. Those who don’t look, live or love like us have no right to box, label and shelve us. I’m here to make changes”

Her latest release, 'Shawty' wears this ethos on its sleeve and we are very fortunate to be premiering its music video today. The track uses sensual guitar licks, an R&B tinged drum line and infectious vocals to convey a distinct message. Rap verses intertwine elegantly with the gorgeously performed vocal, creating an all encapsulating R&B and rap fusion hit. The music video's setting is one of two lovers roaming through a city, featuring a world where digital identities are amplified. It's aesthetic has the feel of early 2000s nostalgia, two lovers utilising escapism to properly connect. It's directed by Kate Cornish and Tilly Robba and produced by Steph Jowett.

On the creation of the music video, the team stated, 'Shawty is an ode to the early-00’s; It’s a 3min relationship montage set in our digital times balanced with the freedom of a classic road-trip movie. It’s a music video we wanted our younger queer selves to see when we were growing up in the 2000’s but with the celebration of what being Gen-z and in love is like today. We hope it can be a warm optimistic hug in these hard times.'
