Live Review: Georgia Maq taps Alice Ivy for new single, 'Someone Stranger'

Naarm/Melbourne's Georgia Maq has combined with Alice Ivy for a collaborative new single, 'Someone Stranger'. The track sees two of Australia's most prominent non-male artists join forces to create an uplifting and euphoric banger. It's a natural coming together for the artists, both doing incredible work in advocating for diversity in representation in their respective fields of electronic and punk music.

Georgia Maq, of Camp Cope fame has turned heads with her pop infused solo work. Her debut 2019 record, 'Pleasure' featured DIY electropop, exploring themes of sexual and self love. With it she revealed the multitudes of herself outside of the Camp Cope project, finding power in self-exposure, tackling stories of vulnerability and heartbreak. While 'Pleasure' dipped its toes into the alt pop lane, 'Someone Stranger' acts as a full immersion into the pop sphere.

'Someone Stranger's sentiment features themes of loneliness, personal connection and its importance. Vocally and lyrically Maq ticks all the boxes, providing a ferocious yet inspiring delivery akin to the pop stars she's inspired by. These sit perfectly under Alce Ivy's production. Euphoric synths, a strummed guitar and a four to the floor drum pattern evoke the therapeutic potential of dancing and the emotional importance of dance floors. They both combine in perfect fashion, creating a crossover dance-pop anthem.

Of the single, Maq shares: "Annika and I knew we wanted to make a song together so we made the time and in about three hours we had pretty much finished 'Someone Stranger'. I write lyrics really quickly when I feel I have to and Annika creates amazing melodies so it just worked really well together. The song is very much open to interpretation, but personally it’s about purging romance through movement."
