After the release of his incredible debut album, ‘Smiling With No Teeth’ to extreme global acclaim, ARIA-nominated, Ghanaian-Australian artist Genesis Owusu is back today with his new single and video ‘Same Thing’. Recorded in the studio sessions for the album, ‘Same Thing’ continues its sonic ethos outside of its strict conceptual narrative, adding yet another infectious banger into the Genesis Owusu discography.

‘Same Thing’ glistens with a feeling of importance. Flowing with addictive bass runs, deep production and experimental lead synths, it combines everything we love about a Genesis Owusu release in a new form. His dynamic top line is well and truely on show here, gliding seamlessly across the beat utilising gorgeous harmonies, strong rap verses written deeply with poetic undertones. The track covers similar sentiments to the album, tackling the unique and sometimes erratic inner thoughts that our human minds are capable of producing. The video adds more layers to the tracks infectiousness. Its psychedelic twinge showcases the ascendant artist glowing like we’ve never seen him glow before.

On creation of the track, Genesis Owusu stated, “When the band and I were creating Smiling With No Teeth, we essentially made 60 hours of music for the album in 6 days. The songs chosen for the album conveyed a very specific narrative, but we also made a lot of great music that didn’t necessarily fit the album’s narrative points. ‘Same Thing’ was one of the tracks born from the seemingly limitless SWNT sessions. The track is still in the realm of the album’s themes of mental health (more specifically, the crazy shit the mind makes up), so the video follows suit with a psychedelic barrage of both colourful and claustrophobic imagery.”
