Holy Holy’s Graham Ritchie unveils new project SCENES, shares debut single ‘Henhouse’ Ft. Ainslie Wills
Brisbane/Meanjin songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist SCENES introduced himself to the world last month, and is already turning heads thanks to his intricate, peculiar electro-rock sound. The new project from Holy Holy‘s Graham Ritchie, Scenes‘ debut single is titled ‘Henhouse’, and features none other than the exceptional Ainslie Wills, and is a stirring, soaring collaboration between the pair. And, if that wasn’t enough, now we have the accompanying visuals for ‘Henhouse’ to get lost in all over again.
Discussing the single, Scenes said, “In the verses, Ainslie’s lower register captures and draws you in, and then soars over the driving chorus instrumentation. Layers of saturated vocal delays colour the chant-like phrases which contain fragments of self-talk.”
Accompanying the news of a debut EP on the way, the clip for ‘Henhouse’ was shot and produced in Brisbane/Meanjin and depicts two young adults on their own journeys home. Showing moments of introspection, catharsis and reflection, it’s a compelling visual by director Matthew Howard.
“‘Don’t let the fox guard the Henhouse’… it’s about our minds. Our fragility and limitations. But there’s also a commitment to hope and progress,” Scenes said of the clip.
A stellar first impression and with more still to come, we can’t wait to hear more from Scenes. Watch ‘Henhouse’ below!
