Someone mashed up Frank Ocean and Tame Impala and we're here for it

A YouTube user took it upon himself recently to ask himself the question, "What would a Frank Ocean and Tame Impala album sound like?"

The wide world of the internet delivers special gifts to us occasionally, and the latest surprise is a very special one indeed. YouTube user Calb took it upon himself to mash up two of the 2010's most loved albums, taking two of our most loved artists and bringing them together in perfect harmony. Being brave enough to ask the question, "What if Frank Ocean hired Tame Impala to produce Blonde? What if Kevin asked Frank to replace him as Tame's vocalist?", Calb mashed up Tame Impala's Currents with Frank Ocean's Blonde to make a tripped out, emotive, RnB meets disco-leaning-psych fantasy. Joining Ocean's vocals over the instrumentals of the Perth producer's pioneering 2015 record, it's certainly an audio journey like no other. As Calb put it by answering his hypothetical question, "Here's what that imaginary album might sound like."

Released as a video complete with live footage of both acts and lots of visual effects, Calb also included the warning, "If you are not into flashing lights, just listen to the audio without watching the video." As this writer can confirm, it is pretty perfect working music, so very much enjoyable without the visuals indeed.

Of course, Frank Ocean fans will no that there is no news about the artist at the moment and if we will ever receive new music from him again. The artist has been grieving the tragic loss of his brother, Ryan Beaux, in August 2020 and has been silent on social media for some time now. Last year, James Blake released an official cover of Blonde track 'Godspeed'.

Perth based Tame Impala fans were treated to two shows recently from the newly formed Tame Impala Sound System, which is a substitute live outfit comprised of Kevin ParkerJay Watson and Dom Simper, with the remaining live Tame Impala members stuck overseas. Tame Impala was recently nominated for two GRAMMYs but unfortunately missed out. In other Tame Impala news, the producer's hit song 'Elephant' was covered by The Wiggles recently for triple j's Like A Version, and the band themselves delivered a pearler of a LAV themselves at the end of 2020.
