A record from an underground producer has sold for $41,000 on Discogs, becoming the most expensive record to be sold on the retailer.
'Choose Your Weapon', a record from UK producer Scaramanga Silk, has just sold on Discogs for a whopping $41,000 USD, becoming the most expensive record ever sold on the retailer. The 2008 record was self-released by Silk, and only 20 vinyls were pressed — but he's not exactly thrilled with the news.
As DJMag reports, in an interview with Discogs about the sale, Silk said it was "difficult to understand why the release went for that kind of money as I do not believe that any record is worthy of such a valuation."
He continued, saying, "You imagine that the highly limited edition nature of it would have been a major factor. The individual who made the purchase must have had some kind of special connection to the work too. There was a buzz around the record in 2008."
Even though Silk was touched by the record having such importance to someone, he did also express some disappointment in the extreme price and "to see a promotional item reach such prices in the resale market when the artist sees no remuneration at all."

Discogs is no stranger to customers paying large sums of money for rare and special records, with records often selling for a few thousand dollars on the site.
