Genesis Owusu announces Smiling With No Teeth Album Tour, ahead of forthcoming debut album

Genesis Owusu

We’re declaring it: 2021 is the year of Genesis Owusu. While the eclectic and genre-defying artist enjoyed great success in 2020, including earning his second ARIA nomination as well as appearing at #73 in triple J’s Hottest 100 with ‘Don’t Need You’, this new year will see him release his eagerly anticipated new album, Smiling With No Teeth. And, to coincide with that release come March 5th, he’s now announced a national tour to bring his incredible live show around the country.

Set to kick off in April in Brisbane and Sunshine Coast before heading to Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Fremantle and Perth before finishing up in Adelaide, the Smiling With No Teeth Album Tour is sure to be a set of unmissable shows. Having been lucky enough to catch Genesis and his Goon Club live at BIGSOUND previously, I can assure these are not shows you’ll want to miss.

At the end of 2020, Owusu released arguably one of his finest singles yet in “The Other Black Dog”, and at the time of release we said, “There is no one doing it like Genesis Owusu.”

“He continually elevates not only his own craft but that of everyone else around him with his forward-thinking, progressive and conscious brand of hip hop, and continues to prove he’s not just on a different wavelength to his peers, he’s on his own planet completely. ‘The Other Black Dog’ is yet another slam dunk for the creative, and is one of his finest releases yet. He said of the single, “The track explores the internal struggle between a hopeful spirit of endurance, and a gnashing black hole of ugliness. One is me, and the other is also me.” Taken from his forthcoming album out in March 2021, this single is a real moment for the rising artist, kicking off Genesis Owusu season with style.”

With each and every move, Genesis Owusu continues to cement his presence as one of the country’s most innovative, future-facing and exciting artists. Truly unpredictable, every element of his creative persona, from his press pics to his videos to the music itself and more is measured and considered. He continues to become more and more fearless and ambitious as well, pushing his craft into new territory and bringing his fans with him along the way. It’s because of this that anticipation for Smiling With No Teeth is high, and I cannot wait to hear more.
