Disclosure pay tribute to MF DOOM in BBC Radio 1 Residency

13 January 2021 | 2:06 pm | Emma Jones

Disclosure are currently in the residency seat for BBC Radio 1, and used their most recent show to pay tribute to the late great MF DOOM.

The music world at large was rocked recently with the news that the prolific and ground-breaking artist MF DOOM had died in 2020. Tributes for the masked rapper poured in across social media, with many openly expressing their gratitude to the path DOOM paved in their own creative pursuits, spanning a multitude of genres and styles which proved just how vast and important MF DOOM's influence really was.

Howard and Guy Lawrence took the opportunity during their BBC Radio 1 residency to pay homage to the late rapper. After a mostly ambient mix (which is absolutely beautiful to listen to), they ended their residency slot with a touching tribute after opening their mix by describing DOOM as one of their heroes.

Guy said in the recording, "We're going to do ten minutes dedicated to one of our favourite rappers and producers, the late great MF DOOM."

Howard followed it up, expressing his love by saying "The one thing that I took from MF DOOM other than the musicality of it all was like, I just associate that name with quality. Everything he did was always just so good, I didn't have to question whether or not I was going to be into it. It was always good."

This residency comes after a very busy year for the brother duo in 2020. The pair kept their heads down with a series of mixes and singles, as well as the release of their eagerly anticipated third album, ENERGY, in August. Listen to the mix right here, with the tribute commencing around 49:43.
