Live Review: Pacific Heights recruits CHAII and Kings for '405'

20 November 2020 | 1:30 pm | Emma Jones

New Zealand producer Pacific Heights taps two of Aotearoa's brightest talents, CHAII and Kings, for an emotive new single.

After the release of 'The Weight Of It' featuring living legend and UK electronic veteran Steve Spacek, New Zealand producer Pacific Heights is back for more this week with another impeccable new single. This time tapping two of Aotearoa's brightest talents, CHAII and KingsPacific Heights (real name Devin Abrams) is proving its all systems go for his project with this genre-defying new release.

Kings kicks off proceedings with a West Coast inspired hook, channeling a laid back but captivating feel over the thick, atmospheric haze of the production courtesy of Pacific Heights. Persian emcee CHAII wastes no time getting down to business, rapping in multiple languages over the warm, deep beats.

Released alongside some visuals by Oscar Keys Photography, Pacific Heights said on socials that the clip perfectly captured "some of the inspirations behind the song; being in LA and thinking about being home." Intermittently flicking between footage of all three artists as well as a fierce dancer performing intricate and intriguing choreography, it's a gripping video which adds further depth to the already reflective, personal release.

With 'The Weight Of It' and now '405', Pacific Heights is following up his critically acclaimed 2018 release, A LOST LIGHT in style. A keen collaborator and an avid explorer of new and exciting sonic territories, his music might defy traditional genre constraints, but it still maintains a deeply emotive quality which gets listeners hooked within seconds. Rounding out 2020 with this latest release, we cannot wait to hear what else is still to come from Pacific Heights!
