Live Review: PREMIERE: Citizen Kay returns with assertive new heater, 'Don't Blink'

Citizen Kay delivers a hard hitting and assertive moment on his latest single, 'Don't Blink'.

After the release of his February single 'Funny Business' featuring Genesis Owusu, Citizen Kay makes his welcome return with a blistering new track titled 'Don't Blink'. Premiering on Purple Sneakers today, he wastes no time proving again why he is one rapper worth keeping both eyes firmly planted on.

A fusion of rock and rap, 'Don't Blink' follows a long history of the merging of these two genres and provides the ideal foundation for Citizen Kay's assertive, self-assured bars to float above. Showcasing his versatility and adaptability, Kay proves he's just at home with rapid fire rhymes above a driving bass and police sirens as he is on slower, funkier jams. He utilises both his lyrical prowess and ability to put on an enthralling performance to his advantage, packing so much in to just two and a half minutes of exhilarating hip hop.

Citizen Kay said of his new single, “It’s basically about complacency. There can be a very fine line between being understanding or patient and being complacent. There’s a time for silence and observation and a time for action and blunt conversation. Both are necessary. This is me exploring my potential complacency and questioning my next moves, questioning my motives and questioning my actions.”

With pummeling guitar, formidable bars and a hard hitting, swaggering bass, 'Don't Blink' is a total heater. Listen below:
