Live Review: PREMIERE: Paces taps Sarah Saint James for 'Back Around'

Here at Purple Sneakers, it's no secret we stan PACES. We've covered him extensively, and watched him evolve into one of the most prolific, ambitious and creative forces on the Australian electronic scene. He pushes his creativity and musicality consistently, staying true to what feels right to him while consistently rising to the challenges he sets himself again and again. Recently, he's launched his own record label by the name of Off Leash Records, and has spent this year getting it off the ground with a few exciting releases. Now, he releases a single of his own, teaming up with rising star Sarah Saint James for a vibrant new collab which we are thrilled to premiere on Purple Sneakers today.

Titled 'Back Around', this short and sweet new single is emotive, future-facing and hard hitting in all the right places. It employs Paces' production prowess, once again impressively on display here, while making space for Saint James to also shine. Together, they create electro-pop harmony, with Sarah's slightly distorted vocals the perfect complement for Paces' bass-laden beat, complete with a marching drum line and tinkering keys.

Paces said of his new single, "I met Sarah Saint James last year while on a writing trip to Sydney. The rapper who I’d planned to work with had cancelled at the last minute, leaving me with a free day. Sarah and I had been speaking via DMs about doing a songwriting session one day. I hit her back saying “how about right now?”. We had a great session and actually wrote my previous single ‘Dear Driver’ that day. Since then I’ve featured in one of Sarah’s music videos (brushing my teeth lol), we’ve worked on a few more songs, and she’s become one of my favourite songwriters and collaborators. I’m super stoked to feature this amazing new artist on my next single, Back Around!”

As for Sarah, she said of the single, “Working with Paces has been such an awesome experience, hes so easy & fun to work with so it was really great to finally to get a song out together officially!”

This isn't the first time these two have worked together, with Saint James writing Paces' previous single 'Dear Driver'. Even from just one listen, we hope this isn't the last time they collaborate either. Listen to 'Back Around' here:
